Cosmetic Product Dates: Production, Expiration, and PAO

Production Date (or Manufacture Date): This refers to the date when the product was manufactured, specifically indicating the production date of the batch of cosmetics.

Expiration Date: This date indicates when the cosmetic product expires and should not be used. It is usually printed directly on the product package in the format month/year or day/month/year. For example, 'Exp. 09/24' means the makeup can be used only until September 2024, while 'Exp. 20/06/2024' indicates it can be used only until June 20, 2024.

Period After Opening (PAO): For products that do not display an expiry date on the package, look for an “open jar” symbol with a number followed by the letter "M". This number indicates the number of months the product can be safely used after opening. For instance, "6M" means that the product can be used for six months after it’s opened, and "12M" means that the product can be used for twelve months after it is opened.
